A friend of yours says something so genuinely awful, you have to lower your opinion of them.

Sorry, gotta be vague here, there’s a chance this could be seen, and there’s already enough going on. It wasn’t directed at me, and I hope he’s just  trying to be funny ... but I don’t think he is.

I’ve had friends where they did shitty things to other people, and in the past I’d be like, “Oh, well they didn’t that to me .” Then when they run out of bridges to burn, they did eventually in fact do that to me.

Now I have no friends at all, and it’s working out well!

Been there, done that. It’s unfortunate, but I remain friends with those people to help show t hem a better way.  I wouldn't give up on friends if they became an alcoholic or meth addict.  I would take steps to protect myself and my family however.

I’ve got friends.  When things started to go sideways with this one, I started making a point of getting back in contact with friends who I had not done a good job of keeping in touch with.  That’s been a good thing.

22 year friendship ended back in ‘16 when the now ex- friend said the absolute worse thing to me just because I called bullshit on his line of thinking (as I had done multiple times in the past). His wife came home and I made a comment about how much I would have hated for her to see us fighting on their lawn if she didn’t show up when she did. I said goodnight, left, and haven’t seen or spoken to him since.

I hope it stays that way.

Ah, thanks. Soft rejections are what I’d do or just silence when they act like that. My wife’s grandmother is racist and 99. We’re just quiet  when she says something that we don’t agree with.

Well I wouldn’t wish my problems on you, but I’ve actually have been happier since moving on. I’m more surprised that I haven’t run into him at all since we live a 5 minute drive away from each other.
